BALI – Food inflation is now haunting Bali. The Bank Indonesia Representative Office for the Province of Bali then took steps to provide chili seeds assistance to PKK Kab. Klungkung (26/09), Kab. Jembrana (27/09), Kab. Tabanan (27/09), Kab. Badung (3/10), Kab. Gianyar (3/10), Kab. Bangli (04/10), and Kab. Karangasem (04/10) in an effort to reduce food inflation in Bali.
Each district then gets 3,000 chili seeds in polybags. The activity was attended by the Head and Deputy Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for the Province of Bali, the Regents, the Head of the Regency PKK Mobilization Team, the OPD leadership as well as the recipients of chili seeds from the Sub-district or Village/Village PKK in each Regency.
As of September, Bank Indonesia has synergized with local governments in distributing 24,000 chili seeds. Each City/Regency PKK in Bali Province received an allocation of 3,000 chili seeds, except for Kab. Buleleng who will get 6,000 chili seeds. This is because Buleleng has a larger area and the largest population, and is the center of chili in Bali.
The Head of Bank Indonesia Representative Office for Bali Province, Trisno Nugroho said that the distribution of chili tree seeds was an implementation of the National Food Inflation Control Movement initiated by Bank Indonesia on August 10, 2022 in Malang and in its implementation in collaboration with the Regional Government. In implementing the national movement, Bank Indonesia in synergy with the Bali Provincial Government carried out the “Merdeka 77,000” program by distributing 77,000 chili tree seeds which were distributed to PKK in 9 City/Regency Governments, Villages and MSMEs assisted by Bank Indonesia, Pasraman and Islamic Boarding Schools and Food Clusters. Trisno added that through urban farming of chili seeds, it is hoped that the community can meet their daily chili needs from their yards.
The Regent of Klungkung, I Nyoman Suwirta, appreciated the real inflation control measures taken by Bank Indonesia. Many people are not aware of the dangers of inflation for a country, even though it is the small people who are most affected by economic turmoil, especially inflation. Nyoman said that he is currently looking for BUMDES that is willing to distribute food commodities with a price difference that is not too large with the transportation subsidy scheme by the Regency Government. It is hoped that the transportation subsidy scheme can stabilize inflation in Klungkung Regency.
Furthermore, Nyoman added that the easiest way to maintain inflation was from the household, in line with the “I am the Heart of the PKK” program. If the program “I am the heart of the PKK” is implemented properly, the household can meet some of its food needs from the yard so that inflation does not have a significant impact on the family.
Chairperson of the Jembrana TP PKK, Candrawati Tamba expressed her appreciation for the chili seed assistance provided. Collaboration and synergy are expected to continue in order to maintain stability and improve community food security. Economic conditions declined again due to rising prices of several food commodities. He also asked the Head of the PKK at the sub-district level to pass on chili seeds to the community.***
