As has been echoed for a long time, that the island of the gods, Bali, will be prepared and developed as a leading destination for health tourism or health tourism.

This plan is carried out so that Indonesian people who usually seek treatment abroad, can receive treatment in Indonesia.

According to data from the Ministry of Health in 2021, there is an economic leakage of around IDR 161 trillion per year from Indonesians seeking treatment abroad. This makes it increasingly intensive to develop international standard health facilities in Bali, especially in the special economic zone (SEZ) in the Sanur area. This was conveyed by Deputy Governor of Bali Prof. Tjok Oka Sukawati as a speaker at the talk show “Challenges and Opportunities of Indonesia’s Medical Tourism”, at Puri Santrian Sanur, Monday (23/1).

He added that even though there are challenges in the process, the opportunity to develop health tourism remains a priority for the national strategy. To respond to the challenges faced by the Indonesian nation, namely post-pandemic health and economic recovery, the construction of health facilities, infrastructure and facilities with adequate human resources is the main program that is currently being promoted.

Furthermore, Deputy Governor Cok Ace added that his party together with relevant agencies are preparing a National Action Plan (RAN) for Medical Tourism and Wellness Tourism for Indonesia which aims to support and encourage existing hospitals and clinics in Bali to function as health service facilities for medical tourism. . Where this is of course to support the Ministry of SOEs program which is currently developing a Health SEZ in Sanur.

In SEZ Sanur there will be several health facilities including a hospital which will be developed. Of course, in collaboration with well-known institutions from several developed countries in the health sector. One of them is the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins University.

Through the vision of “Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali” every balanced and sustainable development will be a top priority for realizing the welfare of the Balinese people.***
