BADUNG – In celebration of the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17, 2025, Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park will once again host its annual Independence Day event, this time under the theme “Pesta Rakyat” (People’s Festival).
Through this event, GWK continues to highlight its role as an inclusive, educational, and recreational public space. The cultural park aims to serve as a platform to showcase Indonesia’s rich heritage, foster unity, and ignite national pride.
The inclusive spirit of GWK is reflected in its commitment to being a space open to all—regardless of age, background, ethnicity, culture, or entertainment preferences.
This year marks the fourth time GWK has held its Independence Day festivities, which will span four days starting from August 13, 2025. The celebration will kick off with MyMelali, a culinary festival offering a wide array of local and archipelagic dishes, complemented by a live stage featuring music and cultural performances.
In addition to food, MyMelali will also highlight regional products such as souvenirs, handicrafts, traditional textiles, and creative works by local MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises).
“MyMelali is a way of supporting local MSMEs by giving them space to showcase their signature products to a wider audience, while also offering visitors an authentic dining experience in a relaxed, festive, and friendly setting—true to the warm and communal spirit of the Indonesian people,” said Ch Rossie Andriani, GWK Cultural Park’s Operational Director, on Monday (Aug 4, 2025).
The main event will take place on August 17, featuring a music concert that blends genres and generations—from pop, dangdut, to electronic music. Major acts such as The Changcuters, Pamungkas, King Nassar, and Dipha Barus will share the stage with local talents like Barong Boys, Kis feat Yessy Diana, Milledenials, Tika Pagraky, and Not So Koplo.
“This fusion not only promises vibrant and inclusive entertainment but also serves as a celebration of Indonesia’s diverse musical identity,” Rossie added.
The event will also feature cultural performances from Banten and West Sumatra provinces as part of the Pentas Nusantara (Archipelago Stage), providing a platform for young talent and bringing diverse Indonesian arts to a broader national and international audience.
In a unique twist, Pesta Rakyat GWK 2025 will also spotlight the importance of mental health. Each performance will begin with “17 Seconds of Self-Appreciation”, encouraging attendees to take a moment to acknowledge and value themselves. This initiative aligns with the idea of concerts as spaces for emotional release and social connection.
“Through this initiative, we hope to inspire a mentally healthier young generation as the foundation for a more united and progressive Indonesia,” said Rossie.
On August 17, the day will start with a flag-raising ceremony, with students from SMA 1 Kuta Selatan serving as the honor guard. The school’s marching band will also perform to liven up the morning.
Following the ceremony, more than 50 tree saplings will be planted across the GWK area, along with a Merdeka Parade (Independence Parade) featuring over 500 elementary school students from the Kuta Selatan district.***igo
