Swiss-Belresort Pecatu Pioneers Rooftop Solar Power Plant in Swiss-Belhotel Network

by Igo Kleden

BALI, ULTIMOPARADISO.COM – Swiss-Belresort Pecatu has officially launched the operation of its Rooftop Solar Power Plant (PLTS) on Wednesday, April 21, 2025. Bali Governor Wayan Koster inaugurated the operation of the solar power facility at the hotel, which is part of the Swiss-Belhotel network.

The use of this rooftop PLTS is projected to generate approximately 246,316 kWh of clean energy annually. This move serves as concrete evidence of support for the transition to clean energy and reflects the Hong Kong-based hotel chain’s commitment to eco-tourism—a responsible and environmentally friendly tourism concept.

This initiative aligns with Bali Governor’s Circular Letter No. 5 of 2022, which encourages the tourism sector, particularly hotels, to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and shift toward renewable energy sources.

The inauguration event was also attended by representatives from PLN Central, PLN UID Bali, and the Bali Provincial Energy and Mineral Resources Office.

“Bali Province has tremendous solar energy potential, estimated at around 22 GW. Of this, rooftop solar potential is estimated between 3.3 and 10.9 GW. Unfortunately, to date, utilization has only reached about 8.91 MWp. With such potential, Bali has the opportunity to fulfill its electricity needs independently through renewable sources. Therefore, I warmly welcome the rooftop solar initiative by Swiss-Belresort Pecatu. It aligns perfectly with the Bali Mandiri Energi program that was just launched this month. Acceleration and collaboration between the private sector and the provincial government are essential for the program’s success and for enhancing Bali’s tourism image both domestically and globally,” said Wayan Koster, Governor of Bali.

Swiss-Belresort Pecatu is a four-star resort with 171 guest rooms, one grand ballroom, three meeting rooms, and a range of supporting facilities.

“We are proud that Swiss-Belresort Pecatu is pioneering rooftop solar power implementation within the Swiss-Belhotel International network. This step is part of our company’s commitment to providing the best guest experience while contributing to environmental sustainability. As part of the tourism industry, especially hospitality, we feel a responsibility to support the transition to clean energy and the mission to realize green tourism in Bali,” said Ricky Teguh Utama Argawa, President Director of PT. Tujuh Havenindo Hotel, owner of Swiss-Belresort Pecatu.

For the installation of the rooftop PLTS, Swiss-Belresort Pecatu partnered with Xurya Daya Indonesia (Xurya), an Indonesia-based renewable energy company with a vision to revolutionize the energy industry in the country. Xurya is a pioneer in the no-upfront-cost rooftop solar leasing scheme aimed at accelerating the transition to solar energy for commercial and industrial sectors.

Providing end-to-end solutions—from technical design, licensing, to operation and maintenance—Xurya ensures businesses can switch to solar energy seamlessly and in compliance with government regulations. To date, Xurya has successfully operated rooftop PLTS with a capacity of over 100 MW across more than 100 companies from various industry segments throughout Indonesia.

“The hospitality sector plays a vital role in creating a greener future. By utilizing rooftop solar panels, Swiss-Belresort Pecatu not only showcases energy efficiency but also significantly contributes to reducing carbon emissions by approximately 220,207 kilograms per year—equivalent to planting around 2,953 trees. We hope this initiative will inspire more hospitality players to adopt renewable energy and support Indonesia’s efforts in achieving energy sustainability goals,” said Eka Himawan, Managing Director of Xurya.

As one of the world’s top tourist destinations, Bali continues to reinforce tangible steps toward green tourism and the use of renewable energy. Swiss-Belresort Pecatu’s adoption of rooftop solar is a pioneering move that supports the realization of Bali Mandiri Energi and proves that Bali’s tourism industry players can take a strategic role in supporting the energy transition while maintaining harmony between nature, culture, and local communities. ***
