JAKARTA – Throughout 2022, Indonesia’s post-COVID-19 tourism continues to show recovery. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS), noted that the level of foreign tourist visits from January to November 2022 reached 4.58 million visits, up 228.30 percent compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in the same period in 2021. This achievement exceeded the target upper limit or the optimistic target of foreign tourists set by the government is 3.6 million. President Joko Widodo also stated that the recovery of tourism in Indonesia was much faster than other countries, one of which was shown by the busy flights to Bali since the end of last year even though the government has not opened access to all countries in the world.

Tourism recovery is also demonstrated through an increase in the average occupancy rate of star-rated hotels from January to November 2022 which reached 46.76%, up from 34.68% in the January-November 2021 period.

The recovery of the average hotel occupancy rate also applies to the tourism destination The Nusa Dua which is managed by PT Indonesia Tourism Development (Persero)/Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), a BUMN developer and manager of tourism areas in Indonesia. The occupancy rate of The Nusa Dua during January-December 2022 was recorded to have increased by 197% to 49.46%, compared to the level in 2021 which only reached 16.63%.

ITDC Main Director Ari Respati said, “2022 was a year of tourism recovery in Indonesia after being hit by a pandemic for two years. This recovery can also be seen through The Nusa Dua’s occupancy rate in 2022 which grew exponentially, almost three times compared to 2021, and slightly higher than the national average occupancy rate. The high intensity of organizing events at The Nusa Dua, both national and international events, is one of the factors in recovering the occupancy rate in our area in 2022.”

Several international scale Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition (MICE) events were successfully held in The Nusa Dua area, such as the G20 2022 Presidency, Indonesia Esports Summit 2022, AIS 6th Senior Official Meeting & 4th Ministerial Meeting, and The 15th Bali Democracy Forum. A number of music and lifestyle events taking place at The Nusa Dua such as Univlox Lite Nite Vol. 4 and Road To Now Playing Fest 2023 are noted to be able to attract tourist visits to the area.

Ari explained that during 2022, the occupancy rate of The Nusa Dua area was quite stable during the high season to the low season. In July – November 2022 the average was recorded above 60%. Even in December 2022, the average occupancy rate of hotels in The Nusa Dua area reached 70.68%. This December 2022 achievement is the largest growth and is almost the same as pre-pandemic conditions where the December 2019 occupancy rate was 72.93%. Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits to The Nusa Dua throughout 2022 were recorded at 379,504 people, growing 168% compared to 2021 which reached 21,295 people.

“The achievements in 2022 have made us welcome 2023 with more optimism, especially since the government has officially revoked the Implementation of Restricting Community Activities (PPKM) at the end of last year. With a number of event agendas that will take place during 2023, we believe it will help our efforts to maintain the positive trend of tourist visits to The Nusa Dua and continue to maintain the momentum of tourism revival. We are also open to working with various parties in order to increase the intensity of events at The Nusa Dua so that it can increase the attractiveness of the area,” said Ari ending his explanation.***igo
